Charlie Parker Jazz Festival

The Charlie Parker Jazz Festival is one of New York’s most historically rich summer jazz events, rooted in the philosophy of Charlie Parker, the creator of Bebop. Born as a rebellion against commercialism and materialism, Bebop is defined by fast tempos and improvisational freedom, aiming to protect the cultural identity of African Americans by resisting imitation.

This project centers on Bebop’s spirit of liberation, breaking away from traditional jazz and notation systems to propose a new visual language. Instrumental sounds were reimagined as elements of nature, and was arranged to evoke the explosive, energetic rhythm of Bebop, capturing its raw expression and uncontainable force.
